Balcony Specification

SUBSTRATE
Substrate to receive waterproofing must be smooth, dry and free of any dirt, grease and oils. The deck must then be pressure washed with a high pressure cleaner and allowed time to dry.

PRIMING
All verges, flat surfaces and other areas to receive waterproofing should be fully primed with a Sovereign recommended primer and allowed time to dry as per manufacturer's instructions.

Apply two layers of Sovereign recommended waterproofing membrane to the primed roof deck including turn-ups, turn-downs, fillets and flat edges. Manufacturer’s application instructions must be strictly adhered to. Finish with a UV stable paint or topcoat to exposed areas of approved colour if required.

Install a separation/slip sheet comprising of two layers of 250 micron polythene sheeting with 50mm laps sealed together with pressure sensitive tape on the waterproofing treatment before mortar and tiling is done. This will safeguard the treatment against movement and damage also allowing removal of the tiling and mortar in future years without damage to the waterproofing treatment. Install soft and perimeter joints in tiles to allow for thermal expansion and contraction. Install expansion joints in the tiles every 3 x 3 meters.

FLASHING ALTERNATIVES
1. Glass fibre/polyester membrane with Sovereign recommended compound to turn-ups.
2. Aluminium/stainless steel trim sealed with a polyurethane bead to upper edge.
